Are You Thinking About Botox and Filler?

Now listen, Botox and fillers aren’t for everyone—but they are for me! Most people are shocked when I tell them because I prefer a more natural look, and trust me, I’m not trying to have a “build-a-bear face” (lol).

I’ve always been transparent about my relationship with injectables, and today, I want to share my personal journey with you. For me, it’s not about chasing youth—it’s about enhancing what I already love, bringing balance to my features, and feeling my best.

As a 35-year-old Black woman, injectables have been a part of my self-care routine for a while now. I’ve been getting Botox for about three years and fillers for one year, and they’ve made a subtle yet impactful difference in how I look and feel.

Let’s not get it twisted—I’m not trying to become anyone else, just the best version of me. You and I are already beautiful as we are, but there’s also nothing wrong with adding a little sprinkle of Botox or fillers to your life if that’s what makes you happy.

Quick disclaimer: I am NOT a medical professional. This is not medical advice—it’s just girl talk and entertainment. If you’re considering any cosmetic or elective procedure, please consult with your physician or licensed practitioner to see what’s best for you. Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s jump into my journey and what I’ve learned along the way.

My Botox Routine

Here’s what I do and why I love it, with a little breakdown of the medical terms:

  • Between the Brows (“Glabella”): Smooths out my “11 lines” for a relaxed, refreshed look.

  • Around the Eyes (“Orbicularis Oculi”): Softens fine lines and crow’s feet while keeping expression natural.

  • Forehead (“Frontalis”): Prevents static lines where my makeup used to settle.

  • Chin (“Mentalis”): Reduces dimpling for a smoother appearance.

  • Masseter Muscle (“Masseter”): My favorite! Relaxing this area slims the face and balances my jawline—perfect if you have a strong jawline or grind your teeth.

  • Lip Flip (“Orbicularis Oris”): I absolutely love this! A tiny amount of Botox relaxes the upper lip, giving it a subtle “flip” that enhances the natural shape of my lips. It’s very understated but makes my smile look more balanced and helps reduce the appearance of a gummy smile.

My Filler Experience

When it comes to filler, I’m all about facial balancing. This means enhancing harmony between your features—whether that’s adding subtle volume to the chin for better proportions, softening laugh lines, or creating definition in the cheeks. It’s not about drastic changes; it’s about working with your natural beauty to create symmetry and balance that makes everything look cohesive.

I had chin filler in April 2023. It lasted about a year.

Why I Do It

The main reason I’ve incorporated Botox and filler into my routine is to feel confident in my skin and maintain harmony in my facial features. I love how these small adjustments bring out the best version of me, whether it’s preventing makeup from settling in fine lines or enhancing my smile.

Where I Go

My trusted medspa is Capital Aesthetic + Laser Center in Washington, DC. It’s Black-owned and operated, and I trust their expertise completely. The space is luxurious, the team is professional, and the results always feel tailored to my goals. Whether it’s injectables or skincare treatments, they’ve got me covered.

I see Aesthetics Director and Board-Certifed Physician Assistant Michelle German, PA-C, also known as “Beauty Whisper,” in Essence Magazine.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Is It For You?

Injectables aren’t for everyone, and that’s perfectly fine! If you’re curious, I recommend starting with a consultation. Ask all the questions you have, start small, and find a provider who listens to your goals and values subtle, natural results.

Always remember, you are beautiful just the way you are—you don’t need any of this. I consider Botox and fillers like wearing a pair of heels: my bare feet are perfectly fine for walking and running, but there’s nothing like slipping on a 6-inch heel to enhance my legs and embrace my feminine features. It’s all about what makes you feel confident and empowered.

Tiffany
