Your Quick and Easy Summer Makeup Look

Listen or Read Time: 20 minutes

If you're anything like me, you don’t love wearing a ton of makeup in the summer. It should be effortless, simple, and quick, and your skin should look like skin.

Lately, I haven't been wearing a ton of makeup because it's been getting warmer. Even though I'm a professional makeup artist, I prefer a lighter look on most days, especially in the summer. My goal is to achieve that no-makeup, flawless, beautiful skin look. So, let's dive into the details!

Step 1: Flawless Complexion

Start with a base that combines sun protection and a natural glow. I love mixing my SPF with bronze drops and foundation.

Here are my favorite products:

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Fresh Wear 24HR Liquid Foundation Makeup - 495 Amber

L'Oreal True Match Lumi Glotion

Tarte Key Largo Glow Drops

IUNIK Centella Calming Daily Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA++++

APPLICATION TIPS:

  • Mix a pea-sized amount of foundation with your SPF and a few drops of bronze drops

  • Apply the mixture with your fingers or a damp beauty sponge for a seamless finish

  • Focus on the center of your face and blend outwards

  • Spot-correct any discoloration with concealer using a small brush or your finger

  • Build coverage in thin layers, misting your face with setting spray between each layer.

Step 2: Set Your Makeup with Powder

Setting your makeup with powder is crucial for a long-lasting look. I prefer using a powder that contains mica, like PAT McGRATH LABS Blurring Under Eye Powder in Yellow, or try e.l.f. Halo Glow Setting Powder for a budget-friendly option. Mica is important because it reflects light, making the skin look naturally radiant.

High-End Option:

PAT McGRATH LABS Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Blurring Under Eye Powder - Yellow

Affordable Alternative:

e.l.f. Halo Glow Setting Powder

Application Tips:

  • Use a fluffy brush to apply the powder lightly all over your face.

  • For a more natural finish, focus on your T-zone and any areas where you applied concealer.

  • The difference between translucent powder and mica powder is that translucent powder helps control shine and set makeup without adding color, while mica powder reflects light, giving your skin a luminous glow.

Step 3: Soft Blush and Bronzer

A warm, peachy blush adds a soft, casual touch. I recommend Laura Mercier Ginger Blush and L'Oreal Paris Infallible Bronzer. For a more affordable option, Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso and NYX Matte Bronzer work wonders.

High-End Options:

Haus Labs By Gaga Color Fuse Talc-Free Blush Powder - Fire Moon

Laura Mercier Blush Color Infusion - Ginger

Affordable Alternatives:

L'Oreal Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Foundation In A Powder- Mocha

Milani Baked Blush - Luminoso

Application Tips:

  • Use a fluffy brush to apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, blending upwards towards your temples.

  • For bronzer, use a larger brush and apply it to the hollows of your cheeks, the perimeter of your face, and along your jawline.

  • Blend well to ensure a seamless look.

Step 4: Simple Eyes

For the eyes, keep it simple with just mascara. Brown mascara offers a softer look. My top picks are Yves Saint Laurent Lash Clash Mascara and L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Balm Mascara for a budget option.

High-End Option:

Yves Saint Laurent Lash Clash Extreme Volume Mascara

MAC Teddy Eyeliner

Affordable Alternative:

L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Balm Volumizing Mascara

Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen Water Resistant Eye Pencil

Application Tips:

  • Apply mascara to your upper and lower lashes, starting from the base and wiggling the wand upwards.

  • For a more natural look, focus on the outer lashes and skip the lower lashes.

Step 5: Soft Brows

Enhance your brows with a tinted eyebrow gel. For a defined yet natural look, I use Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Eyebrow Gel and Dior Backstage Concealer. Affordable alternatives include NYX Professional Makeup Tinted Brow Mascara and e.l.f. Wow Brow Gel for brow gel options, and Maybelline Fit Me Concealer or L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer for sculpting.

High-End Options:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel - Caramel

Dior Backstage Concealer - Shade 4N

Affordable Alternatives:

NYX Professional Makeup Tinted Brow Mascara

e.l.f. Wow Brow Gel

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer

Application Tips:

  • Use the tinted brow gel to shape and define your brows, following their natural shape.

  • Apply a small amount of concealer around the edges of your brows to clean up and define them further.

Step 6: Natural Lips

Finish off your look with a natural lip color. Opt for a lip gloss or tinted lip balm for a subtle touch. Some of my favorites include:

High-End Options:

Summer Friday Lip Butter - Vanilla Beige

MAC Cork Lipliner

Affordable Alternative:
NYX Butter Gloss Lip Gloss

NYX Line Loud Lip Liner Lip Pencil

Application Tips:

  • Apply the lip gloss or tinted lip balm directly to your lips for a moisturizing, natural-looking finish.

  • Blot your lips with a tissue to remove excess product for a more subtle look.

  • Outline your lips with the lip liner, then fill in the rest of your lips.

  • Apply lip liner last for a softer finish and more natural lip
