Why Your Skincare Isn't Working

Listen or Read Time: 11 minutes

The pressure is to look flawless—fit, healthy, and especially clear, glowing skin. As a professional makeup artist and someone who has faced skin challenges, I understand the struggle intimately. Despite the allure of countless skincare products flooding our feeds and tempting us with gadgets like my personal favorites:

I'm here to tell you that the real secret to radiant skin isn't just skin deep. It's about what you feed your body and how you manage your inner stress.

Ready to find out how? Let's dive in!

Foods to Rethink and What to Embrace Instead:

1. Dairy: While cheese and ice cream are tough to resist, dairy triggers inflammation and acne. Instead, reach for almond, coconut, or oat milk—your skin will thank you!

2. Seed Oils: Common cooking oils are often packed with omega-6 fatty acids that promote inflammation. Switch it up with healthier fats like coconut, avocado, or ghee. Remember, olive oil is excellent for cold dishes but is better for high-heat cooking.

3. Sugars: Refined sugars can increase insulin levels and exacerbate skin issues. Opt for natural sweeteners like raw honey, dates, or organic maple syrup.

4. Gluten: If you notice bloating, discomfort, or skin flare-ups after eating gluten, try gluten-free alternatives like quinoa, buckwheat, or amaranth.

5. Processed Foods and Alcohol: Avoid processed snacks and alcoholic drinks, as they can aggravate inflammation and disrupt skin health.

Supplements and Herbals for Better Skin:

Incorporate supplements and herbals, like Berberine, which has antifungal and antibacterial properties, and spices like oregano and thyme, which enhance your dishes and your skin's health.

Berberine is a cool supplement because it helps keep your blood sugar levels in check, which is great for your overall health. It can also help clear up your skin by fighting off acne and giving you a smoother complexion.

Although not skin-related, I found that taking Creatine has helped with my physical and mental performance.

Creatine is a great supplement because it helps your skin cells stay healthy and renew themselves, giving you a clearer, fresher look. It also gives your muscles extra energy, which can help you perform better in sports and recover faster afterward.

Stress Management Techniques:

Don't underestimate the power of stress management in achieving clearer skin. Techniques like EFT tapping and tools like the Oura Ring have been instrumental for me. They help manage stress and improve sleep quality, supporting healthier skin.
